Hello, my name is Mary Clarkson.

I teach First Grade. My class is self-contained.

The First Grade is a busy year filled with fun and new subjects. This is the time when spelling, reading, grammar, phonics, penmanship, math, religion, science, and social studies are all experienced. The children learn additional reading skills that lead to independent studies. Written expression takes on a more mature appearance as well. Math plays a large role in our daily activities as we have a math meeting, fact practice, skill lesson, and guided practice each and every day! Throughout the year, the children learn to serve important roles and lead the school at our school Mass.

The First Grade has several "special" days throughout the year. Some events we celebrate are: Native American Indian Day, Pilgrim Day, Santa Day, Reindeer Day, Chinese New Year, St. Patrick's Day.

My degree is from Fontbonne University with a dual certification in both elementary and deaf education. Training in special education has been a terrific advantage for working in an elementary setting. It has prepared me for various learning styles. I enjoy attending workshops to gain new ideas for my class. In addition, I have religious certification from Paul VI.
